The science of red light
What red light is, and what a session looks like
Red light therapy, sometimes called photobiomodulation, uses LEDs that give off specific wavelengths of light. Clinirae devices use visible red light and invisible near-infrared light, the same wavelengths you will see listed on each product page.
The wavelengths
- 630 and 660nm: visible red light, the warm glow you see during a session.
- 810, 830 and 850nm: near-infrared light, just past what the eye can see.
- 460 and 590nm: blue and yellow settings, found only on the Light Mask.
Each product page lists exactly which wavelengths that device uses.
What a session looks like
Put the device on or position yourself in front of it, choose a setting and start the timer. Then sit, lie back or read. Sessions are short, and each device's manual gives the timing to follow. Don't look directly into the LEDs, and use eye protection where the manual says to.
What to expect
Think of red light as a ritual rather than a quick fix. People who enjoy it tend to keep sessions short and regular and fit them around something they already do, like skincare, a stretch or the evening news. Everyone's experience is different.
